Palm Bay Councilman Talks Christian Faith on Herzog Foundation Podcast
PALM BAY — Palm Bay City Councilman Chandler Langevin recently appeared on the Herzog Foundation’s Finding Your Spine podcast, where he spoke about the role of Christian faith in American government, business and culture.
Langevin, a seventh-generation Floridian and Navy veteran who served with Marine Corps units overseas, discussed his belief in the need for virtuous leadership focused on local issues over national political ambition, as well as perceived historical drifts in American thought.
“It’s an American value—we’re very individualistic,” Langevin said. “There’s a place where that’s OK, but you also have to remember that everything you’re doing is for Christ and for your family.”
The Herzog Foundation is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to advancing Christ-centered education. Based in Missouri, it has awarded more than $14.6 million to Christian schools across the country, funded thousands of student scholarships, and trained educational leaders across 1,300 schools through conferences, workshops and ongoing programs to date.
In the podcast, Langevin shared how his experiences in Afghanistan, global travel and local activism have shaped his beliefs, and why he argues for a return to a historical ethic of leadership embodied in the chivalry of “Christian knights.”
“They led with nobility and virtue, and they did what was best for their people and society,” Langevin said.
Bemoaning the overprioritization of economic interests in modern American politics, Langevin directed attention to the Bible.
“One of my favorite verses in Matthew... 'Do I not provide for the sparrows?’” Langevin recalled. “Focus on God’s mission for you, focus on your people, and the money will come and you’ll be provided for. It’ll be OK.”
