Bible Reading Marathon Expands Across Brevard County This Year
MELBOURNE — The newly expanded Brevard County Bible Reading Marathon was launched today with opening ceremonies at Borrows West Park near the Brevard County Government Center.
The multi-church effort began in Palm Bay in 2024 and invites Christians of all denominations to sign up for 15-minute time slots to read Scripture. This years marathon begins today and continues through Thursday. By the end of the week, the entire Bible will have been read aloud across three locations in Palm Bay, Viera, and Titusville.
Several Brevard VIPs were in attendance at today’s ceremonies, including Melbourne Councilman David Neuman, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Neuman is a congregant of Our Lady of Lourdes in Melbourne and encouraged the crowd with the advice of a former school teacher who taught him to keep a Bible on his bed pillow for nightly inspiration.
Seth Tweeddale of Citizens Defending Freedom also spoke, urging believers to boldly proclaim the Word of God in the public square, pointing to America’s Christian heritage and quoting Rev. Robert Hunt at the founding of the first permanent English settlement of Jamestown: “We do hereby dedicate this land and ourselves to reach the people within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ…”
Also addressing the crowd was Karen Pierce, founder of the Bible Reading Marathon, who emphasized the unity these gatherings foster across denominations, highlighting Psalm 133: “How pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity.”
