OBITUARY — Kevin Morris, a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office senior homicide agent who was also remembered across the community as “Pastor Kevin” and “Coach Kevin,” died Saturday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 while responding to a deputy-involved shooting in Mims.

Morris, 55, previously served as a youth pastor at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Palm Bay and continued to be remembered for his faith after returning to law enforcement in 2021.

“He was a treasured friend, but most importantly, he was our pastor,” Ashley Hughes told WESH 2. “If you needed help with something, he was there.”

Cornerstone Assembly of God also remembered Morris for his investment in others in a statement posted Monday.

“Kevin’s time here at Cornerstone was an example of pure love of his community,” Senior Pastor Steven Reeves wrote. “His time with both departments and here at Cornerstone shows he invested in others’ future.”

Morris began his law-enforcement career with the Palm Bay Police Department, serving from 2001 to 2012. He returned to law enforcement in 2021 with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, later becoming a senior homicide agent and polygraph examiner. During his time with the agency, he received numerous commendations and a Life Saving Award.

Between his law-enforcement careers, Morris worked with young people as a teacher and football coach at Sebastian River High School, where he was known as “Coach Kevin.” The Sebastian River Gridiron Association remembered him as “an amazing teacher and coach” who made a lasting impact on students and athletes.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey described Morris as “one of the nicest people you’d ever meet” and “a man of faith.”

Morris is survived by his family, including a daughter who now serves in law enforcement.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 am at Calvary Chapel Melbourne.

A GoFundMe has been established to assist with the family's financial burdens:
