Cocoa Tragedy Touches Local Christian Community
EDITOR'S STATEMENT — Christians of Brevard joins many across our local church and school communities in mourning with the Piccolo family after Olivia Piccolo’s two young children were killed Wednesday in Cocoa in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide involving their father.
The children were the grandchildren of David and Sherry Piccolo. David previously served in leadership with Brevard Public Schools and as superintendent of Merritt Island Christian School and now pastors Clearlake Baptist Church in Cocoa. Sherry also previously served at Merritt Island Christian School, where Olivia graduated in 2016.
MICS Superintendent Jon Hill issued a statement Friday morning asking the community to pray for the family and consider helping with a fundraiser established to ease funeral and bereavement expenses.
“They are known and loved by many in our community and they need community support,” Hill wrote.
Please keep Olivia, David, Sherry and their family in prayer, and consider helping meet those immediate needs if you are able.
Almighty God, look on your servants, lying in great weakness, and comfort them with the promise of life everlasting, given in the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
