Hundreds Across Brevard Join 2026 Life Chain in Support of the Unborn
Christians and pro-life advocates gather across Brevard County during the 2026 Life Chain, a peaceful annual demonstration in support of unborn life.

BREVARD — Hundreds of Christians and pro-life advocates from churches across South Brevard lined four busy intersections Sunday afternoon for the annual South Brevard Life Chain, continuing a local tradition now in its 28th year.

Organizer John Boyd said 320 participants signed in during the Oct. 4 event, with additional people joining throughout the hour. Participants represented more than 30 area churches.

From 2 to 3 pm, participants stood, sat or knelt along the roadside holding pro-life signs at New Haven Avenue and Evans/Hollywood Boulevard, Pineda Causeway and Wickham Road, Palm Bay Road and Babcock Street, and Eau Gallie Boulevard and A1A.

Participants in this year’s Life Chain hold both homemade signs and printed signs provided by organizers, with prayer topics, Scripture verses, hymns and a purpose statement printed on the back to guide participants during the hour of silent witness.

The South Brevard Life Chain historically stretched for miles along U.S. 192 and was known locally for having one of the nation’s longest continuous chains. In recent years, organizers have divided participants among multiple intersections to expand the event’s reach across the county.

Other Brevard gatherings included a Life Chain at Fiske and Barnes boulevards in Rockledge and the Divine Mercy Island Prayer Chain in Merritt Island.

Life Chain is a national Christian pro-life movement that organizes peaceful, prayerful roadside demonstrations, typically on the first Sunday in October. The Melbourne gathering was one of about 1,500 held across the United States and Canada this year.

Boyd reports that participants enjoyed favorable weather and reported overwhelmingly positive reactions from passing motorists.

Melanie Bisson of Greater Faith Temple COGIC in Melbourne said her family received dozens of supportive honks and thumbs up.

“Our value doesn’t change because of our age and where we’re located,” Bisson said. “I used to be the most staunch pro-choice person who would mock and fight with the woman I am today. Praying seeds were planted today for someone like that.”

Peter Wycka of The Mission Church in Palm Bay likewise said supportive reactions far outnumbered negative ones.

“Happy we had a good amount of support from passersby at the pro-life Life Chain today in Melbourne,” Wycka said. “I thought to myself that Life Chain should be happening every week or something—at least every quarter.”

Organizers are looking to carry the cooperation behind Life Chain beyond a single Sunday through the Brevard 4 Life Coalition, a Christian network designed to help churches share information, mobilize volunteers and support local pregnancy, foster-care and family ministries throughout the year.
