On the Ballot: Brian Hodgers, Candidate for Florida House District 32

As part of our new “On the Ballot” series, Christians of Brevard is asking local Christian candidates five simple questions about faith, leadership, and public service.

On the Ballot: Brian Hodgers, Candidate for Florida House District 32

Brian Hodgers is a Florida native who won a special election in June 2025 and has served the past year in the Florida House of Representatives. He has called Brevard County home since 2012. Brian and his wife are raising their children in Viera and attend CAV (Church At Viera). As a local business owner and employer in the district, Brian understands the challenges facing working families and Brevard's growing community. He is committed to protecting the conservative values that make Brevard County and Florida strong.

Why are you running for Florida House District 32?

I was elected as a state representative in 2025 after winning a special election.  My platform then was to bring a commitment to our Godly heritage, the Constitutional rights to Life, Liberty, and Private Property, and to defend our taxpayers from the heavy hand of government. I’ve fought for property tax relief and to protect our communities from the ravages of too much growth in too little a time. We’ve done well, but we have much more work to do. That is why I am running for re-election.

What does it mean to you to be a Brevard resident?

I’m not just a resident. I’ve been a participatory citizen serving on several boards for many years and leading a small business. This is my home and the home of my children, and I’d like to do what I can to protect its integrity as a community even while change is impossible to stop.

What is the top issue driving your campaign, and what can voters expect you to do about it?

Cost of living has affected my constituents like no other issue. But many of those costs are a result of too much government. Property taxes, insurance, and utility rates all contribute to an unsustainable financial burden for our citizens. We need less taxes, more competition in the free market, and less collusion between big business and big government at the expense of taxpayers.

What is one misconception people may have about you or your platform?

Some people may believe that because I’m already elected that I am part of the establishment that we all despise. But I ran for office the first time because I was tired of seeing our people get the short end of the stick by self-dealing, special interests and career politicians in Tallahassee. I have not even filled a complete first term, and I have not yet begun to fight.

How has your Christian faith shaped your life, and how can voters expect it to influence your approach to public office?

America and the self-government she enjoys are impossible without the Christian principles and virtues recognized by our founding fathers and embedded in our founding documents. The very concepts of life, liberty, and private property are found in Scripture itself. Thus, I regard my duty as a magistrate defending life, liberty, and private property as an outgrowth of my duty to God.
