On the Ballot: Kenny Johnson, Candidate for Palm Bay City Council Seat 4

In our “On the Ballot” series, Christians of Brevard is asking local Christian candidates for office five simple questions about faith, leadership, and public service.

On the Ballot: Kenny Johnson, Candidate for Palm Bay City Council Seat 4

Kenny Johnson is the incumbent Palm Bay City Council member for Seat 4, a husband, father, elder at Body of Christ Fellowship, and founder of the Healing Through Christ Foundation. Born and raised in Palm Bay, Kenny has a deep love for the community that shaped his life. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Florida Institute of Technology and is pursuing a Doctor of Public Administration at Liberty University. Whether serving in government, mentoring youth, or partnering with local churches, his mission is to love God, serve people, and leave Palm Bay stronger for future generations.

Why are you running for Florida House District 32?

I am running because I believe leadership is a calling to serve, not an opportunity to be served. Palm Bay is the community that raised me, and it has been one of the greatest honors of my life to give back as your councilman. I don't see public office as a career; I see it as one of the mission fields God has entrusted to me. My prayer is to serve with humility, love my neighbor well, and reflect Christ in both my words and my actions. As Jesus taught in Mark 10:43–45, the greatest leaders are servants.

What does it mean to you to be a Brevard resident?

Being born and raised in Palm Bay means my roots are here. This community helped shape my values, my faith, and my commitment to serving others. It is where my family lives, worships, and serves. Being a Brevard resident means investing in our neighbors, supporting our local churches and businesses, and working together so the next generation can enjoy an even stronger community than the one we inherited.

What is the top issue driving your campaign, and what can voters expect you to do about it?

The greatest challenge facing Palm Bay is managing growth while preserving our quality of life. We must improve infrastructure, strengthen public safety, protect taxpayers, and plan wisely so growth benefits everyone. Voters can expect me to continue listening first, asking difficult questions, and making decisions guided by fiscal responsibility, servant leadership, and a long-term vision for our city.

What is one misconception people may have about you or your platform?

Some assume that because my faith is central to my life, I only represent those who share my beliefs. Nothing could be further from the truth. My faith calls me to love my neighbor, serve others with humility, and treat every person with dignity and respect. As your councilman, I serve every resident of Palm Bay fairly while allowing my Christian values to shape my character and conduct.

How has your Christian faith shaped your life, and how can voters expect it to influence your approach to public office?

My relationship with Jesus Christ has transformed my life. I am not perfect, and I have made mistakes that I fully own. Through God's grace, I have experienced forgiveness, redemption, and a new purpose. My faith reminds me daily that I am called to lead with humility, integrity, compassion, and accountability. I do not seek to impose my faith through government, but I do seek to let it shape how I serve others. My prayer is that my actions reflect Christ more than my words, living out Matthew 5:16 by letting my light shine so others may glorify our Father in heaven.
