COCOA — A June conference in Cocoa focused on Christianity and public life will move forward after the death of former U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, who had originally been scheduled to speak.

The Christ Is King Conference, set for June 5-6 at Glory of God Anglican Church, is centered on the theme “All of Christ, for All of Life, for All of Brevard.” Posey had been scheduled to speak on “Politics and the Kingdom of God.”

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Bill Posey, who was a faithful public servant and a friend to many in Brevard County,” Tyler Bauer, conference organizer and speaker, said. “While we grieve his loss, we are grateful for his witness and for the opportunity this conference gives us to continue reflecting on what it means to honor Christ in every area of life.”

The conference will be held at Glory of God Anglican Church. The 60-year-old church describes itself as covenantal and Reformed and is affiliated with the Anglican Church in North America. Members of Posey’s extended family are among the church’s congregants.

Posey died Saturday at 78. Born in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 18, 1947, he moved to Rockledge in 1956 after his father accepted an engineering position working on the Delta rocket and graduated from Cocoa High School. His public service career began on the Rockledge City Council before he went on to serve in the Florida House, the Florida Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. He was also a longtime congregant and trustee of Rockledge Methodist Church.
