Palm Bay Beats Melbourne to Faith, Family and Responsible Fatherhood Proclamation
PALM BAY — The Palm Bay City Council formally recognized June as “Faith, Family and Responsible Fatherhood Month” during its May 21 meeting, becoming the first Brevard municipality to adopt the proclamation after Melbourne had previously announced plans to do so at its June 9 meeting.
Pastor Rusty Thomas of American Reformation Church received the proclamation and addressed council members and attendees following the recognition.
“As I have studied the history of America, it attests that our nation was built upon a three-legged stool of faith, family, and freedom,” Thomas said in a prepared statement. “That stool has greatly wobbled as of late, and I believe it is critical to strengthen those compromised legs to secure a future and hope for our posterity.”
Attendees reported a standing-room-only crowd, with Christians from a wide variety of local congregations filling the council chambers in support of the proclamation.
The initiative was originally developed through Citizens Defending Freedom and has been promoted locally by pastors, community leaders and civic advocates.
Melbourne is expected to issue its own proclamation during the June 9 City Council meeting. Titusville has also indicated plans to recognize the initiative.
To date, 27 Florida municipalities have made Faith, Family and Responsible Fatherhood proclamations, according to local CDF organizer Seth Tweeddale.
